Brilliant!

Last week was momentous in that Sam took his first real nap (that didn’t involve an extended stroll around the neighborhood) and I wanted to make sure it was documented. You’re saying to yourself,”but he’s 6 weeks old? Don’t all newborns sleep most of the day (when they’re not eating?” And of course you’d be correct – for most babies. But not Sam. I’m not sure why it took me 6 weeks to figure this out — I’d tried a bunch of strategies but he wouldn’t go for them for more than 10 or 15 mins (his arms would invariably get out of any swaddle I’d jerry-rigged or he’d only last for 10 minutes in the swing before he’d bean himself with one of his overactive arms 🙂 — so minus the walks around the neighborhood (which were good for getting back into my exercise routine but weren’t good for also getting me a nap :-), we were short on day sleep.

Then we found the sling (thanks Auntie Daesman!) — on Wednesday August 24th, he slept for 1.5 hours from 11:00 am -12:30 pm. It was brilliant! Thursday he slept with his Nana on the couch, Friday he extended his nap to 3 hours (and his mom slept for one of them too!), and the same again on Saturday. And on Sunday, he actually took a 3 hour morning AND a 3 hour afternoon nap! This was definitely in my top 3 moments since he was born (the others were when we finally got off formula and were 100% breastfeeding and when he smiled at us for the 1st time August 12th).

So now not only is Sam more well-rested, but his mom is getting a few more naps too!
