8 months old

Yesterday Sam reached his 8th month milestone and I have to say, it just gets more and more fun to be around him.  This month his accomplishments include:

  • revisiting talking to himself in his crib (both very endearing but also difficult as his favorite time to do  this was after he nursed at 4 or 5 am — and he was so enamored with his skills some mornings, that he’d talk for 30-60 mins!?!?  Yawn :-).
  • mastering the basics of commando crawling:  when Sam set his mind to it, he literally learned the basic mechanics in a 24 hour period.
  • Eating cereal puffs: this has now become more of an addiction :-).  He *loves* these cereal puffs and will even look at the cannister until you get it and give him some.
  • Imitations: Sam loves to imitate us coughing.  He also learned how to give 5 and is working on high 5s.
  • Pushing himself from a lying down on his tummy to a sitting up position: Last Thursday (3/9) I was talking to John on the phone while Sam and I were in the playroom.  He was a bit behind me so not in my direct line of sight.  When I turned around, he was sitting up!?!  And he had been crawling on his tummy right before that.  I was both excited that he’d figured out a new skill and also a bit bummed that I’d missed seeing it unveiled.  Thankfully he did it again later that afternoon.
  • Socks:  Sam is obsessed with his socks.  You have to be super quick to get them on his feet and even if you are successful, he’ll usually grab one of them, pull it off, and quickly shove it into his mouth.  Replacing the sock is only about 50% successful — he’ll often quickly remove the replacement as well (and shove it into his mouth too – greedy little guy ;-).  And God help you if you try to wrest it from his hands — he’ll squawk and squawk and squawk.  🙂

On the downside, Sam did have his first fever this month but it was minor thankfully (100.1). He’s also ending the month with his 2nd cold/stuffy nose.

And the best moment for me — he loves it when we blow on his tummy or kiss his neck.  And his laugh is the funniest thing (and I think I can speak for John here too) we’ve ever heard.  And we can’t get enough of it.
