Mr. No Nap
If you’re keeping score at home, it’s Sam = 4, Nap = 0. For the last 2 days, Sam hasn’t had a nap — and I mean not a wink. So you’d think he’d be out like a light when it came time to hit the sack, right? Sadly, no. As I write this, Sam is screaming himself to sleep as he’s done for many nights of the last 6 weeks. And since I still have an extremely difficult time listening to his agony, I’m blogging to block it out :-(.
For the last too-many-to-count nights, Sam has had a heck of a time falling asleep by himself. He’s never had a super easy time, but most nights he’s found zzzz-land after 5-10 minutes of fussiness.
This no nap thing, however, is a new phenomenon, and John and I are a bit at our wits’ end as to what’s causing it. Our best hypothesis is teeth. In January, when he was cutting his first 2 teeth, he slept for a max of 20-30 mins per day, so we’re guessing it might be round 3 (round 2 was thankfully pretty easy). His red patches have also reappeared on his cheeks (also associated with teething, it seems).
All this sleep weirdness has also coincided with the time change, so light may also be a contributing factor.
Sigh.
The good news is that even though he hasn’t napped, Sam has been impressively good natured during the day while we play and run errands (it’s the thought of going to sleep that sends him over the edge :-). Another way that he continues to amaze us. I’m six kinds of grouchy when I haven’t gotten my nap ;-).
ok, off to comfort him and hopefully get him to sleep :-).
