First Day of Preschool (w/ mom)

Thursday September 14th was SPL and my first day of preschool together :-).  The program is a unique parent education/pre-school class offered through Palo Alto Unified School District.  It’s open to members of the community so there are families from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, and even as far away as Newark.

We go together from 9:30-11:00 am every Thursday and then John and I have nightly meetings/classes twice a month that we attend with the other parents.  The same teacher faciliates both the daytime parent/child(ren) group and the evening parent only group.

It was fun to see SPL in this new environment.  There is a downstairs room with different "areas": book corner, kitchen corner, playhouse, markers and paper, puzzles, etc.  Then there is the upstairs (6 stairs— a great number for our climber 😉 with a mat tower (3 levels of thick mats that stand, together, about 2 1/2 feet tall), a small gym w/ a slide (little tykes brand, the thick plastic set that usually is outside), mirrors, and a few other items.

And where did SPL hang out, you ask?  In the big room that is *adjacent* to our classroom — no toys, only tables and stored cots (set up mostly for adult meetings).  But there was an ever-so-interesting sink/faucet with steps leading up to it.  And 2 large garbage cans.  Enough to captivate SPL’s attention for a good while.  Our son definitely has his own beat.
