We definitely had a great example of why they say toddlers can be single-minded this month — SPL’s obsession was/is (as our regular readers will guess) We laugh as he says "I’m Robin (Lopez), mom — you be Brooke" (Stanford’s big men (twins)).
Conversations:
He’s developed a number of narratives around his stuffed animals this month including:
"turtle’s sad — he misses his mommy/dad."
"Pete (SPL’s pelican that Nana bought him) pushed Ray (his manta ray) or Moosey." or "Moosey is sad."
Possible transference:
SPL: "goat misses his daddy. So do the 2 froggies."
KEH: "Where did they go?"
SPL: "work."
Using "died" twice mid-February — surprised John and me — but it only occurred once:
"The toy’s mommy died." and then later in the afternoon "maybe his bobo died" (referring to our calendar on the wall: there was a boy for February and SPL couldn’t see
the boy’s bear on the calendar)
Really liked Sesame Street’s "word on the street" video: "gigantic" 🙂
His favorite books this month have been Curious George titles (thanks Nana!) And when we’re reading books (or see signs on the the street or get cards in the mail), SPL will say "what do the words say? "
He’s been exploring his understanding of time:
— "not before Christmas"
— "it’s 5:30"
— moving the small hand of the clock in his Miffy book
— And then, "Not this afternoon — today!"
And some other funny things SPL said this month:
"No you can’t have my feet. They are attached to me!" 🙂
"The Suchi pasta is almost ready. I’m waiting" (his head was
resting in his hands and his elbows were propped up on the table 🙂
On February 24, during dinner:
KEH: Do you like the beans?
SPL: They’re special!
SPL: "Hopefully it won’t be dark. Hopefully we can go to the park if it’s not raining."
And my favorite:
"Why didn’t Uncle Bryan ride a horse (at his wedding)? (After Nikhyl rode a horse for his and Chandre’s wedding on Feb. 18). "Will there
be a sheep at the next wedding?"
