32 months old part II

  32 months old

The last installment of the 32 month stories —

SPL has been very Interested in names this month, both first and
middle — clerks at the store, teachers at the various preschools I’ve
visited, doctors’ names — whenever I get home from some place, he’ll ask me who I visited and what his/her name was.

We watch a few short videos before SPL goes to bed and now have an Apple TV to integrate into our TV setup — many of the vids are YouTube versions of the Sesame Street videos from our childhood.  It’s hard to say who’s been enjoying them more, SPL or me and John.  This one stuck in my head and made me laugh:  fat cat sat hat

And then a few days after the Apple TV’s arrival, he’d already incorporated the new vocabulary: "Let’s watch that on the Apple TV! "

Jokes of the month:
When I’m changing his diaper, for some reason
he started saying "you’re Bobby Shafto" to me (from the Nursery Rhyme
book that Gigi gave me for our babyshower.  I’d never heard that rhyme
before and for some reason, SPL thought it was funny so we started
calling each other Bobby Shafto and giggling non-stop).

And then the variation that SPL added: "I’m his (Bobby’s) older brother Frank."

More quotes:

KEH:  "Dude, moosey is out cold"
SPL:  "Moosey has a cold — runny nose and cough.

SPL:  "why is oscar a grouch mom?  maybe somebody took his dinner?"

SPL:  Dad’s not feeling good.  He has a cold.  What’s inside you dad?
John: maybe a little virus.
SPL:  Maybe a little fishstick 🙂

After he had a bad dream, woke up in the middle of the night, and crawled into bed with us:
KEH:  can you please scoot over SPL (he tends to sleep *right* next to me/in my face to some degree)?
SPL:  But I’m scooting *towards* you mommy 🙂

Secret jammies — this has been a fun addition to our nighttime and morning routine.  He will sometimes add an extra jammy shirt or shorts under his fleece and call them his "secret jammies."  In the morning, as we’re changing his 1st diaper, he’ll do the ‘reveal’ to whichever parent didn’t dress him for bedtime.

Visiting Ardenwood Farm to do farm chores:feeding the sheep, collecting the eggs, and meeting the baby goats.  He even found an "old time" stove and oven *with* an old bread pan in it!!?!?  And he started pretending to bake bread🙂

Biggest accomplishment this month — learning to go to sleep by
himself! We started on Sunday February 17 as it was Presidents’ Day
weekend and we thought it’d be easier if we had an extra night.
Saturday was Uncle Nikhyl’s wedding so we chose to wait until Sunday.
Long story short, the first night was challenging: 90 or so returns to
bed.  Night two, we thought would be better: Not.  140+ returns to bed
plus SPL decided to try a new trick: making a run for it (it was really
hard not to laugh out loud b/c I could hear him "gearing up" for his
escape and then he’d bolt out of the bedroom door (I was sitting in a
chair in the hall outside his door so I was positioned to catch him
🙂  Tuesday John and I were *exhausted*.  Wednesday and Thursday got
successively better.

And then a week later, on Saturday February 23, after I sang songs with him and said goodnight, SPL sang "Down by
the Bay" by himself in his bed and after a couple of "dad are you
there? is mom in the hall too" call outs, he was quiet.  Only 10
minutes total after I left his room — woohoo!

And for the last 10 days — not a peep.  seriously.  He just has gone straight to sleep.

Happy 32 months!
