[I am writing from our garage, where I'm hiding from our beating,
setting sun and watching SPL play with 2 neighborhood girls (who are
both almost 8).]

I love summer and summer CA evenings in particular. Growing up in TX, the evenings were insufferable: definitely the hottest part of the day.  Here in CA, it's hot but not the blistering hot of my youth. 

As I write this, I'm enjoying watching SPL play with 2 neighborhood girls: KAS is our next door neighbor and TK is our across the street neighbor (this year is especially fun as SPL is older and more independent and the neighborhood kids see him as more of a peer than the "baby" of last summer :-).

Right now they are plyaing "car wash": using the outside faucet as their water source and setting up a bucket brigade to wash SPL's tricycle.

SPL's now worried that the water is going to ruin the balloon that TK gave him (attached to the back of his trike) — he just asked TK (the giver of the balloon) if he could have another balloon :-).

Woohoo it's summer!
