Last Day of Outdoor Preschool

Wendolyn singing

Wednesday was the last day of SPL’s outdoor preschool class. Usually he goes to school by himself but the last day, parents were invited too. We got to sit together during circle time. The kids (8 of them — BH and MRhave been with us in different preschools for 3 year now; AG, AE, LC,MW, SR are the other 5) had picked out songs for us to sing together – -favorites from their year. As is their routine, Wendolyn lit a small flame before she started the songs.  The songs were followed by a special storywritten and illustrated in large format by Keely, the assistant teacher. What a gift!

Speaking of gifts, Wendolyn and Keely hid some in the trees for the kids to discover —a book about a child in nature. Thank you!

And the moms and dads got to experience, firsthand, the legendary Slippy Slidey. What is the Slippy Slidey you ask? I had some clues from the state of SPL’s clothes when he returned from his adventure there (usually once every 6 classes or so): they were filthy and so was he :-).  It was as imagined, though we experienced it during its dry season: a bare hill that creates a natural slide.  Even in its dry state, it was pretty slippy slidey.  I can only imagine it after the rains! Video to come!

In addition to their ability climbing up the hill and sliding down, two of the girls, SR and ME, were particularly good at climbing trees.  I was very impressed.  They follow their leader who is also a good tree climber :-).  SPL and MR also got up into a tree that they call the “Owl’s Nest.”  I didn’t want to disturb their play with the camera so I didn’t get any photos.

What a fun day!
