Sam meets the Korbs!
Sam took his first plane trip to St. Simon’s Island, GA and Jacksonville, FL to visit John’s mom’s family (aka "the Korbs" 🙂 the week before Christmas. Nana (John’s mom), David, Susan, Grace, and Evan flew in from Nashville and Austin, respectively.
The plane rides were without a hitch. Sam loved watching all the people getting on and would flirt with anyone whose attention he got. He also did fine with the altitude, having a few problems only on the way home.
Travelling with a baby is a different experience. Instead of the "usual" 1 small suitcase each, we had 1 large suitcase and 1 large duffle bag, plus a backpack, camera, and computer bag. Not bad for 3 people (and all a tribute to John — he’s great at being a minimalist when it comes to travel :-).
Ever since we went to Montana with the Korbs (summer 2003), I’ve gotten to know and enjoy more their spirit, humor, and family fun. This Christmas was no different. We went out to dinner, visited Gigi’s house, visited Bampa’s, found a fun coffee shop called Monkey Love, and wrapped up the week with a fun evening of karaoke at Uncle Andy’s house (video to come — stay tuned!)
It was fun to watch Sam interact with everyone — it was like he knew they were "his peeps" the minute he saw them — it was uncanny. John and I also noted that Sam reached more than "the usual" number of developmental milestones while we were travelling and attribute it to the attention and energy of the Korbs :-).
The most important thing though was that Christmas brought us all together– from 5 different states this year — no small trick given busy schedules, young families, and the craziness of the holidays.
thanks to everyone for making this happen!
