Great grandparents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins — all in one trip! What a lucky boy I am!

Sam and I spent fun 8 days in San Antonio (April 20-28) with my parents and grandparents (in from Lexington, KY). Sam thrived on all the attention and loved the unfenced, ungated decor of his grandparents’ house :-).
Great-grandpa and Sam had a blast

from the family room (he doesn’t usually play with shoes at our house) and how he can

Great-grandpa even got Sam to understand the phrase "show us your funny face" and Sam was happy to oblige all week long :-).
Grandpa had a good idea: to teach Sam how to clasp his hands over his head in a "victory" show :-). We had to adapt it as we remembered that babies arms aren’t long enough to extend over their heads (the biologist in me wonders about the evolution of this….:-). He also taught Sam about the significance of his

Grandma had fun feeding Sam and showing him her
Sam found all kinds of interesting places to explore including under the ottoman (he got stuck on all 4s underneath it and it was hilarious watching him try to figure out how to get out so he could sit upright. It took him about 5 tries of alternately crawling forward a few inches and then trying to sit up — then looking puzzled and trying again :-), the rag rugs in the hallway, and the shoe pile at the base of the stairs (Sam thought he’d discovered heaven, I’m sure: a place where there are multiple pairs of shoes and *all* within his reach :-)!.
