First Day of School (Sam soloing)

Tuesday September 5th was Sam’s first day at the Presbyterian Early Learning Center.  This is his first time to participate in a "group play/preschool/daycare" program by himself and he goes every Tuesday for 5 hours, or at least that’s eventually how long he’ll go.  🙂

His first day, he did great — I dropped him off and he didn’t cry (the same can’t be said for Sam’s mom — but I waited until I was in the car ;-).  It helped a lot that the kids were outside playing and he just joined in.  He also was late as he took his morning nap so he only stayed for 3 of the 5 hours.

His 2nd day (the 12th), he stayed for 2 hours and cried for most of that (or so the teachers reported :-(.  No surprise that it’s a difficult transition and I think it’s complicated more by the fact that he’s transitioning out of his AM nap (tired enough to be cranky but not tired enough to nap) and teething again.

there are 8 kids in his class — ages 5 months to 2 years.  I haven’t spent too much time meeting the other kids as I’m mostly focused on Sam and his needs (and not dawdling so the separation is clean and quick).  I’m guessing though that he’s on the younger end.

I only snapped 1 photo on the actual 1st day (again trying not to dawdle @ the classroom) but hope to get more as he settles in.
