Sam on a plane

On Friday January 12th, Sam and I flew to San Antonio to visit my parents while John headed West to China.  I was a bit nervous about the flight b/c a) I was worried I’d run out of food for him and b) I had this new carseat converted to stroller contraption that I wasn’t sure would work out for him (as an actual seat and transformed into a stroller with these cool "luggage wheels for carseats" called Go Go Babyz (a must have if you are a frequent traveler with a toddler/infant or even if it’s just a few times a year).

Can I just say Sam was a brilliant traveler/companion :-).  He was content in his carseat for the entire duration of the flight from SFO to DFW (and we got bumped into a middle and window seat as I didn’t know that carseats can’t "block" another passenger’s exit in case of an emergency so we didn’t have the opportunity to get up and walk that I thought we’d have), as well as the trips cruising up and down the airport halls.  And he only cried for a couple of minutes — as he was trying to sleep (and get back to sleep – his fitfulness while sleeping didn’t translate well to being upright so he woke himself up 2 or 3 times :-() and as we were descending.

And what did he eat, you ask?  Or better question, what did(n’t) mom pack :-)?  Here’s the list of what I brought and the final tally:

  • cheese sticks (6 total, he ate 2)
  • milk (15 oz total, 8 consumed)
  • grapes (2 8 oz cups, 1 1/2 consumed)
  • crackers (2 kinds and probably 10 oz total — he consumed half of them in the SFO airport – I was freaking out!?!?  But we landed in SAT with a handful left)
  • 1 bag of freeze dried apples (consumed the entire thing)
  • 1 bag of freeze dried corn (consumed about 1/3 of the bag)
  • 1 apple cut up into pieces (ate 2 or 3 pieces)
  • strawberry fruit bars (8 — didn’t even open the box)
  • 1 cup of graham crackers (didn’t open these either)
  • and the big shocker – 2 bananas that were not touched!

So all together, we had a hard-core carb day — and everyone was happy :-).
