Gooseegg

Last Wednesday, SPL got a whopper of a gooseegg on his forehead.  It was the final few seconds of the game, and SPL went up for the game winning 3 point shot and was fouled by a cheap shot to the head.

Ok, so he fell down the steps at the park. 😦  He slid down face first.

I’d just decided to give him more freedom and was at the top of the play gym (instead of the behind him) as he climbed the stairs.

I didn’t see the bump at first — not sure if it was slow to develop or if I was just focusing on his emotions — or maybe his bangs covered it.  When he went back to play on the gym, the sunlight hit his forehead and my stomach wrenched.

We ended up calling Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital that evening — they provide through-the-night support for parents w/ questions about their children’s heath — as the bump was 1.5 inches across and protruding about 1/2 inch.  The doctor/nurse on the phone said we should wake him up every 4 hours through the night, get him to walk, and to talk.  If he wasn’t able to do one of them or if he was difficult to wake, she said to call her right away.

Long story short, SPL’s ok.  "Just" a big, gnarly gooseegg to add to his collection.  It was scary though and it definitely made us wonder when his first broken bone will be.
