Part of our dinner routine is to talk about favorite things of the day.  Usually SPL doesn’t answer right away — but tonight it was quick and unequivocal:

"Bees."

Here’s the story:
We spent that late afternoon with 3 new friends — FS, CS (brothers who are a bit older than SPL) and Stephanie (their mom).  She’d suggested that we meet @ the Gamble Gardens in Palo Alto and since I’d never been there, and I love gardens, I thought it was a great idea. 

[sidebar: Mr. No Nap has made his appearance again this week 3 out of 4 days (since Sunday — not that I’m counting ;-).  But just as we were approaching the gardens, I looked in the rear view mirror to see my darling son nodding off.  and he’s not a "fall asleep in the car" kid.  Or so I thought]

Upon arrival, both Steph and I realized we were in the same boat with a sleeping kid, but decided to soldier on with our plan.  Her son woke up quickly.  Mine, interestingly enough, slept in my arms for 30 mins or so as we walked around the garden, before waking.

And I’m glad he woke up as not only would he have missed the fun company of Steph and her boys, but he also would’ve missed out on her knowledgeable observations of nature which, among other things, introduced him to his first caterpillar (I was very impressed with how much she knows about plants!  🙂

And he saw his first ladybug.  And lemons on a tree.  And, of course, the memorable "bees".
