No more crib jail — Bah! (and the sleep saga the followed :-)

No more crib jail — Bah!

Last Friday, SPL said goodbye to his crib and moved into a new bed.  The first night’s sleep was a piece-o-pie and John and I thought to ourselves that this would be an easy transition.

Then came Saturday’s nap.  Or should I say lack of nap.  I made the mistake of trying to out stubborn SPL on sleep and as you might’ve guessed, that didn’t work :-).  John gave it his best too and in the end, we decided it was best just to have him play with his grandparents and skip nap.

Sunday nap was a reprise of Saturday with SPL stacking the chairs on his dad, among other "I will not sleep" antics.  This time, we weren’t as stubborn and SPL again ended up playing with his grandparents (they’d arrived on Friday too so I’m sure between the bed and their arrival, there was just too much excitement for him :-).

By Sunday afternoon, SPL was wiped, and functioning only on fumes.  John decided to take him for a walk with Grandpa (my dad) while I got dinner ready to take to Aunt Beth’s house (we were expecting my mom’s brother and his wife who live in Danville @ 4:30 pm).

John returned an hour or so later with SPL asleep in his arms — and reported that he was fighting sleep all the way but was literally stumbling down the sidewalk as they made their way to the fire station down the street.

This week has been much better — each day has gotten easier and it’s been key to have SPL’s TX grandparents around to pinch hit (those no nap days are super-draining).  Grandpa, in particular, came up with some great strategies for keeping super-tired SPL from melting down — amazing to watch 🙂
