Two Years in the Making

We traveled to Chicago last Monday to visit my college friend Daesman, her husband Rodney, and their daughter MKH, who is 1 week, to the day, younger than SPL (what luck!).
Their meeting had been 2 years in the making and we were all very excited — and it surpassed all expectations. MKH is a spirited and sweet little girl and (thankfully) she and SPL got along great. It isn’t easy to have your playroom and "territory" invaded by another 2 year old, but MKH took it in stride — even when SPL monopolized
(and by monopolize, I mean *all* week — no exaggeration).
SPL loved their playroom, their toys, and
, their chocolate lab. She’s 7 now and a lot more mellow, which was perfect for SPL (who loves dogs but still isn’t completely sure what to do when they’re in his face).
It was fun to tag along to MKH’s various activities and participate in their lives firsthand for 5 days. We went to MKH’s gym class on Tuesday (
, especially on the
), played with MKH and her
, on Wednesday, went to their neighborhood pool (*the best* pool I’ve *ever* seen), went to music class, and even got ourselves invited to a birthday party :-).
SPL missed their trash day (it was Monday and we arrived Monday night) but did pick up a new adjective for trash cans: huge (thanks Auntie Daesman!). And first thing after he got out of the car @ music class, he’d located the "giants" (trash dumpsters common to larger complexes) and pulled me over so he could take a look. Cracks me up.
Don’t forget to check out Daes wearing this
in order to get SPL to smile for a photo (here’s
wearing it too :-).

I hope it’s not another 2 years before we get to play with them again!
