33 Months Old part II

In addition to being able to name most letters based on their sounds, SPL has started using numbers as adjectives, not just to count e.g. he’ll say "there are 2 (or 3 or 4) dogs walking" without counting first. Anything greater than 4 usually requires counting (or a good guess :-).
He’s also figured out how to use his fingers to show numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10. It was fun to watch him learn this skill as he had to use his other hand to manipulate his fingers and the focus on his face was quite intense. I tried to get it on video, but it was too short lived. Maybe we’ll get 6-9 🙂
On the food front:
Veggies are still a challenge and he still loves all fruits :-). His big discovery this month was pudding and jello. We were at the grocery and I just
happened to drive us by the jello aisle. SPL saw the bright colored
shapes of the jello, and was quick to ask "What’s that?" And 2 seconds later, into the basket went both
jello and pudding (for John and SPL :-). We tried to make the jello
cut-outs but I’d forgotten to add the Knox gelatin ingredient so all we
ended up with was a Jello mess. But it was still tasty :-).
then we channeled Aunt Beth and made
and it was all over (one of my favorite childhood memories of Beth — she loved chocolate pudding :-).

Play this month:

these arrived in one of Nana’s famous book boxes and they were
*perfectly* timed. SPL had been using 1 or 2 of my canvas bags to play
with (which is fine except for when I am at the grocery and realized I
am missing them :-/) and now has 2 small ones of his own. Thanks Nana!
SPL loves his trains and he and John got them out and started building while we were taking a break from the NCAA tourney. SPL’s favorites are the windmill and the freight house 🙂 Thanks Grandee and Dana!
To celebrate spring’s arrival, we ordered SPL some "big kid" gardening tools: a hoe, shovel, and 2 rakes. they all have wooden handles and metal ends and are perfect for our budding gardener. I will try to get a photo of him using them soon.
We also had a Family Day at preschool on April 5. John joined us and SPL got to show him all the different activities: art, playdoh,
with his friend A,
outside,
, the
, and of course, basketball :-). SPL also
that was being done by the 3 year old class that shares our classroom. It was fun this week (April 16) when he noticed the seeds had grown into grass.

Of course, this month was the NCAA tournament so we spent a fair amount of time watching the games. SPL’s loved the mascots and finding them courtside and could often spot them way before his dad or I could.

And one of my personal faves – -thanks to John’s introduction and my
reinforcement (through laughter at the song and through singing it
randomly with SPL), SPL can sing SpiderPigfrom the Simpsons movie. We even did our own version of it the other day:
"Spider pig, spider pig, does whatever a spider pig does…" (Video of SPL singing it himself)
And then SPL tweaked it (his idea) to "spider dog, spider dog" and
then we took it from there "spider penguin…" then "spider panda…"
I was so psyched I was able to get
him to do this on video — woohoo! The quality is lower because we used the iSight camera instead of the Canon — will try to see if we can get him to sing for the canon too (he can watch himself on the iSight so I thought that would help him ham it up and it did I think :-).
this is a great age :-).
