SPL's "Not a Box" 4th Birthday Party

Not a Box Birthday Party

15 kids and their families, TX grandparents, Aunt Beth, Uncle Scott, the trio, plus our babysitter & her family, Uncle Nikhyl and Aunt Chandre, all joined us Sunday July 5 as we celebrated SPL turning 4 at a local park in Sunnyvale. Because SPL loves boxes and making them into all kinds of play structures and props, we had a “Not a Box” themed birthday party (ala Antoinette Portis’ fabulous book). It involved a lot ofcardboard, paint, tape, imagination, and parental involvement (thanks to all the parents who helped the creations take shape). Castles, firetrucks, houses and barns were made along with egg carton caterpillars.

For those more into active play, we had rocket balloons and they were very popular too.  Cousin ACR and friend SJeven had a competition (as 7 and 10 year old boys love to do): whose would fly the furthest?  Whose would fly the highest?

The party ended with a pinata, cupcakes that SPL had made and decorated with his grandma (who had flown in with grandpa for the week to celebrate), and of course blowing out the candle.
