January 2010

It's been a sicker than usual January and I mean "actual illness" not "cool" by my use of sicker (yes, if you missed it -- sick = awesome, cool, rad). But we managed to have some fun along the way too. We welcomed 2010 at Legoland in Southern California. SPL loved the

we celebrated Dad's 39th birthday with a cake. Trying to avoid the caffeinated cakes (chocolate mocha is a fave), we opted for the carrot. And we should've just stuck with chocolate mocha because SPL didn't eat any in the end anyways.
This month SPL has continued his imaginary play mainly focused on knights, pirates, and characters from Up (he's usually Gamma, the bulldog) and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (he loves the police officer). The
has also captured his imagination and his skill level is very good too (better than his mom on many worlds :-). SPL also continues to love dressing up. Here he is as a

At preschool, the theme was Emergency Vehicles which was very popular with SPL. An ambulance came to school, they got to make their own band aids, and they learned about germs and how they are transmitted. The only bummer was we were sick for the fire station tour this past Wednesday.
They also celebrated SPL's
on Friday January 15. Even though it was SPL who reminded Teacher Rachel that it was his half-birthday (where did he get this assertiveness? ;-), he wasn't that into it when it happened @ the end of the day. But I think he still enjoyed it. My friend held my iPhone to take a video while I snapped a couple of photos.
Another highlight is having his friend NM over (and
too). They get along great and really complement each other's play style. I caught them reading a book over lunch together and was able to use my iPhone to capture this video and this one. SPL also had fun teaching NM how to play the game Trouble.
We also had fun having his cousins KAR and EVR over for a slumber party. The
watched Scooby Doo, and
We also went to their and their brother, ACR's, basketball games (if you can't see the Flickr photos, please either login to Flickr or email me and I'll send you a guest pass to see these photos). EVR and KAR were responsible for all their team's points (14) and

too. We missed much of ACR's game due to having to go get the H1N1 vaccination, but we got a few good ones of him catching a pass and

(while ACR was on the court).
I am hopeful that we are done with the illness for this season. SPL went to the doctor yesterday and after 5 days of coughing, found out he has brochitis. He now has an antibiotic and slept *much* better last night (is still sleeping now too which is relatively unprecedented as it's 8:52 am on Saturday).
