One of the many good fortunes of SPL's life is that he has had not 1, not 2, but 4 great-grandparents to get to know: two on his mom's side and two on his dad's. Friday August 6, as we waited in line @ the bumper cars in the theme park California Adventure, we got the sad news that
Gigi, John's maternal grandmother, had passed away.
I always knew her as Gigi , but her real name was May Pearce Korb. She was the original Pearce from which SPL got his middle name (by way of SPL's Nan, Gigi's oldest child (Norma Pearce Korb Lilly).
She left a bigger than life family that I have loved being a part of and have had many laughs with -- people I admire for not only their quick wits, but for their keen intelligence and deep love of each other. Gigi lived 87 years, all but 1 week of which was in her own home -- a blessing for sure.
Thank you Gigi for taking the time to send actual letters in the mail, for sending your "senior scientist" grandson 2 dollars (still one of my favorite stories), for being SPL's most loyal blog follower, and for the exceptional legacy you gave the world in your 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
You will be missed.
