Wearing an awesome outfit he picked out himself, his new shoes (just like dad's!), and missing 1 of his 2 front teeth, SPL headed off to start first grade on August 16, 2012. His school has a wonderful tradition of inviting the entire school community, board members, custodial staff, parents, friends, siblings, etc, to an opening ceremony on the school farm. Th
morning includes saying a pledge to the Earth, introducing all the teachers and staff of the school, and singing America the Beautiful and This Land is Your Land lead by Otak, who is both a trained opera singer and a 4th/5th grade teacher (I'm telling you -- this school is incredible!).
and sat in the front (his teacher is always one of the first groups to arrive). He had a great day and loves being an "older" in his multi-age classroom (kinders and first graders). We are looking forward to another fun year and are grateful that we are part of this community.
