31 months (part deux)

His big physical development foci this month have been shooting the basketball (w/ us playing the hoop if there’s none around 🙂 and learning to pedal his tricycle.
He’s also been big into watching our Flickr stream — Madelyn (his friend in Chicago), Nana, Grandma, Grandpa, Grandee. And every time he gets into our car, he reaches up to hold the handle above his carseat "just like Grandee does :-)."
His favorite books this month have been Duck for President, Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax, and 5 Monkeys.
He’s really into knowing what the names of different service providers are — from the clerk @ Target, to the teachers (we’ve been visiting a bunch of preschools lately in preparation for the fall), to the doctor’s name. He’s also really curious about what people do all day — especially what John and I do when we’re away from him during the day or evening.
A few other "SPL-isms" that have come up this month include:
— "Mom, can you sing Old McDoughnut?" (he purposely said the wrong thing and then thought it was funny, so kept using it 🙂
— At the end of one of his jokes, he looks @ me and says, "Can you laugh mom?" or "Can you clap, mom?"
— "Do it!" — (this one he’s said for a few months now but I haven’t written it down yet) — it’s what he says to me or John when we are reading books and he doesn’t want to fill in the story/rhyme (and it’s not a bossy tone — just a playful, fun "do it!"
— "Oatmeal daddy" — earlier this week as he and John shared a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast
— "You’re a funny guy dad" — an oft repeated phrase.
— "did we solve the problem?" (we’ve been using this frame of looking at situations and he’s picked it up too 🙂
And my favorite was we were in the car on Wednesday after Super Tuesday, driving to preschool, and listening to the Forum program on KQED radio. Michael Krozney was talking about the election and I heard from the backseat "what is a delegate, mom?" I almost went off the road! :-).
